A total of  1372 students have graduated from  Law development centre (LDC)  during its 51st graduation ceremony held for the three campuses of Mbarara, Kampala and Lira.

The main campus in Kampala saw 872 students conferred with diplomas and certificates in law and human rights.

While speaking to graduands, Court of Appeal's Lady Justice, Irene Mulyagonja who is also the chairperson of the law council reminded them of the challenges ahead including the limited employment opportunities in the legal profession.

" Life is not easy out there, it is going to be challenging for you lawyers who want to join practice as advocates.

The law council has many applications and we are still considering the ones for previous years so it's good to try professional advisers to recommend them and guide them for employment," Mulyagonja said.

Among the notable graduates was Rose Namayanja, the NRM deputy secretary general.

She said that with the ethical and professional uprightness LDC gives, it is high time government considered putting a bar course in all disciplines for competence.

"Every discipline should have the bar course or anything as an equivalent to what learners at LDC go through. The ethics and stricter policies at LDC at constructive and improve ethics competence in the employment environment," Namayanja said.

The Leader of Opposition in parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi,  who received a post graduate diploma in legal practice called for restoration of the rule of law and respect for human rights which has dwindled.

Ssenyonyi added that his knowledge is a value addition which will better position him and aid him in putting government in check as he puts to account perpetrators of brutal arrests and corruption.

Hudu Hussein, the resident city commission for Masaka City who   also graduated emphasized the need for helping poor people access justice undeniably.
